The short version: your pictures never leave your browser, this site runs no analytics of its own, and the only personal data stored here is an email address if you buy a subscription.

To Be Memed is operated by an individual, not a company. Questions about anything on this page can go to the address on the contact page, and will be answered by a person.
There is no upload. Pictures you add to the editor are stored by your own browser, using IndexedDB, on the device you are using. They are never transmitted to this site, and there is no server-side endpoint capable of receiving them even if something tried.
The same applies to any caption boxes you drag and save, and to the memes you make: the finished image is produced by your browser and saved straight to your downloads. Nothing about it reaches us.
Two consequences worth knowing, because they are the cost of that choice: your library does not follow you to another browser or another computer, and clearing your browser's site data deletes it.
None of it is sent anywhere. You can remove all of it by clearing site data for this domain in your browser settings.
There is no analytics product on this site. No Google Analytics, no equivalent, no profile of you, and no record of what you do in the editor.
There is one number, shown at the top of the editor: how many browsers have visited. It is worth being exact about what that is, because "counter" and "analytics" can shade into each other:
Nothing about it can be joined back to a person, because the data required to do so is never collected. If that ever changes, this page will say so plainly on the day it changes.
The free tier of this site carries advertising served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ad Settings, and out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info. Details of how Google uses data from sites that use its services are at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Ads never appear inside the editor itself — only in the template column beside it. Pro removes them entirely.
There is currently no advertising on this site, and no third-party code of any kind runs on these pages.
That is intended to change: the free tier is meant to carry advertising to pay for hosting. When it does, this section will describe exactly which vendor, which cookies, and how to opt out — before the first ad is served, not after.
Payment is handled entirely by Stripe. Card details are entered on Stripe's own pages and are never seen by this site. Stripe's handling of that data is governed by Stripe's privacy policy.

There is no account and no password. The key is the credential, and your browser holds it.
Deletion: ask at the contact address and that row is deleted. The licence stops working at the same moment, which is the honest trade and is worth knowing before you ask.
Template images are fetched from the public template APIs published by imgflip and memegen.link and cached on this site's own infrastructure. That request is made by this site's server, not by your browser, so those services do not see your IP address when you browse the template library.
This site runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes requests on our behalf and retains standard operational data such as IP addresses for security and abuse prevention. We do not query it to build any profile of visitors, and nothing in it is combined with anything else on this page. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
If you are in the UK, EU, or another place with data protection law giving you rights of access, correction, deletion or portability, you can exercise them by writing to the contact address. Since the only personal data held here is an email address attached to a licence, requests are usually answered the same day.
This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect anything from them.
If this policy changes materially — in particular if advertising or analytics are ever added — the date at the top will change and the relevant section will describe it. Nothing will be quietly added under wording that already said it might happen.
